I'm after everything bar keyboard, mouse, and headset and want to max out BF3 if possible!

I prefer Nvidia but would not mind an ATI rig if justified.

Thanks for your time.

Lemin's build is a fantastic one, but for £1.8k I'd want a 100GB+ SSD in there, and you probably need Windows as well. Dropping down to two 570s should cover the cost.

Doh on os, but ssd's are not at prices i like yet. Shure someone will do a better spec soon ;) Consider my hand smacked ;)

Reaper's build is ideal, except I might push for 850W with SLI'd 570s. SSDs may not be at your mystical price point, but anybody who's ever used one knows that they're fantastic and any big-budget build should have one.

I like,

I was thinking of changing that monitor for the LG 23" 120hz one, the SSD for the cheaper Vertex 3 and the psu to a 850w corsair HX series, what you think?

Would i not be better of in the long term getting one 580 instead of 2 570's now?

2 570's beat 1 580.

Yes to the Vertex 3 and PSU.

I think he means for future SLi, which in that case I would agree.

This is how I'd do it, theres no speakers as you has a headset but if you were to shop around and save some cash then you'd have more than enough for a decent set.

By saving in certain areas you have room for a very decent monitor, although you could go for size rather than quality if you prefer.

2500k is Dual Channel ram, the Ram heatsinks will clash with the SA and the SSD is far too unreliable for a 1.8k build. I'd also say the monitors price is excessive for the size, may as well go for a cheaper monitor and throw in a second GTX 580. Also may as well go for a blu-ray drive over a DVD drive.

For reference, Anandtech claims that for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - 1920 x 1200 - Chase Bench - Max Quality + 4xAA on DirectX11, you can get 70.8 FPS on a single GTX570, 82.4FPS on a single 580, 129.7FPS on twin 580s and 127.5FPS on twin 6970s, which are slightly worse than 570s, so the graphics cards are being bottlenecked by the CPU here.

Although I'm aware that BF3 is considerably more beefy than BF:BC2, the point is still that there's no real reason to plan for SLI'd 580s when SLI'd 570s will still be drastic overkill- I'm guessing you're planning on a 60Hz monitor.

Ah god, noob mistake, guess I'm not fully awake yet. As for the heatsinks, they won't clash, you just use the next two slots over.

They've sorted the SSD issues with the latest FW. Personally I think two GTX580s would be overkill at 1920x1200/1920x1080. One should cope with no problems.

Like hybrid said, two 570s is overkill enough.

You won't notice a difference between the two sets of ram anyway so better to be safe than sorry, right :p? As for the Agility 3, I still wouldn't trust it. For a tenner more in a 1.8k build the Crucial SSD is reliable and has faster read speeds which is what we all want in a SSD :).

There we go changed the memory for a lower profile heatsink, although like I say it won't clash as I use a Silver Arrow and high profile memory, but at least it offers the ability to upgrade to 16GB in the future. Changed the monitor for size.

The Agility 3 is a better well rounded drive, it is also cheaper. I've got one and a friend has two without any problems on the latest 2.09 FW. The Crucial may have faster reads but it is very slow in the write department. Still either will be fine, I just rather more performance with faster FW updates personally. I've also had C300s in the past, good drives but the Agility 3 was noticably quicker.

If you shop around I'm sure he can get the GTX570 SLi and a decent large monitor.

Gonna go with reapers build with the 120hz LG monitor, an OCZ SSD and the HX 850w.

One last question, I'm not too keen on that Raven case, won't all the cables be sticking out the top? Will look a bit daft won't it?
