Hey guys just want your feedback one more time....

I have a budget of £800, can push it at the most to £850

I'd like a conroe rig, with an Nvidia gfx card (hate ati's from previous experiances) and a cool looking preferably thermaltake case (soprano/tsunami)

System will be used primarily for multimedia work, secondary is gaming.

I have monitor, keyboard and mouse already, and i'll be ordering on the 3rd of september.

Much appreciated in advance :D

thanks

Intel DP965LT 965 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard -- £82.24
EVGA GeForce 7900 GT "Signature Series" 256MB GDDR3 HDTV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) -- £276.02

Crucial 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-4200C4 Dual Channel Kit -- £129.24
Seasonic S12 500W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply -- £79.89
Thermaltake VB1000SWS Soprano SuperMidi Tower -- £50.47

This is the exact system a good mate of mine has and I've never seen a computer slice through Oblivion, FEAR, Rise of Nations, Farcry etc etc like that before. You'll pretty much play every game maxed out for the next 6-12 months. Crysis might chug your system though. You could go much better if you go SLI or get a faster processor but the juice won't be worth the extra financial squeeze.

PS. a Sound card thrown in would up your FPS by a few as well, but I'm trying to stay within budget and focussing on the components that'll make the real difference.

What do you think?

That looks good, personally i hate thermaltake cases thats why i didnt include one in the spec but people have different tastes so if your happy enough go for it. Is there no chance of changing your mind on the graphics card as the X1900XT is at a great price and is so much better than 7900GT, i know you have had bad experiences in the past with ATI, but they are so much better cards now.

If not then that will still be a fast system and play all the lastest games at high settings.

It isn't that i don't like ATI it's the fact that i need stability in an online game, and with my 9800 pro i was crashing like hell in WoW and DAOC. So if the problems have changed from the 9800pro then i'd consider but i'd need the word of a WoW and DAOC user who uses it to tell me if its stable or not :)

x1900xt will run smooth as glass in WoW it does on an x1800xt, dunno about DAoC though, could never get into that game.

What psu do you have, b4 i switched to high end cards i never had too look@ psu (was always stable my pc), but once i bougth a 6600GT geforce, i also experienced a lot of crashes... , wich were fixed by a better psu
Persoanlyl i'd get the ati 1900xt as its better value as the 7900gt

I have a 300W psu but ive had it ages, its old crap tbh.

I'll have a think about the ATI over the Nvidia. Should also look at getting a seperate heatsink if im looking at overclocking at some point? And if so which do you recommend.

300 is not suffiecient, i think (if i renember ok) the recommended minimum wattage of the 9800 pro was 350w

HIS ati cards have good standard coolign (heatpipe)
If you want even better: Zalman VF900 series or Zalman FC-ZV9

The Seasonic S12 430 Watt you specced will be fine whatever single card you go for :)

I'd choose an X1800 XT/X1900 GT over the 7900 GT though.
