Hello,

Basically requirements are; <14" in size, 4GB ram, >320gb
So far I have been looking at the;

Alienware M11x with the i7 640UM
Toshiba M11-11M with the i7 620M

Both of these have their good and bad points. First off, obviously, cpu is much better in the Toshiba. Memory in Tosh is far faster (1066vs800). And price is better, but of course for a reason. GRAPHICS. The alienware is pretty sexy with its nice graphics and onboard intel graphics for uber power save. Its just a shame the ram is shlow.

Apart from these two, I'm struggling. Your thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

The m11x coincidently uses a ULV i7 dual core with integrated graphics, so they can be ultra portable and versatile, and not just for gaming. I don't think the ram speed, or even processor speed should be too much of a concern with the l3/i5/i7.

Asus 1215N (dual core atom, Ion2).
Acer 3820TG (i5, HD4570, apparently there is a HD5650 model as well).
HP dm4-1060ea (i5, HD4570).
Samsung QX410 (i5, GT310M).
Asus Bamboo (i5, GT310M).

I'm not sure a full fat quad i7 is a good idea in a notebook. First they overheat, and second they eat batteries no matter what. 14'' usually means ultra-portable, and occasionally optimus-enabled laptops. a i5 + midrange graphics are usually the best compromise you'l get on notebooks. A i7 ulv sounds good too (but would that be actually preferable to a i5?).

Why do you need such a powerful CPU in such a small laptop? Battery life will be somewhat compromised and defeat their whole point of portability and battery life not to mention that neither of those i7s are actually quads either, they may have the i7 name but they are dual cores.
