Lady, currently drives an 06 Micra convertible, hates it.

Has £10kish to spend + selling the Micra, wants a new car before term starts again because she is a teacher.

I said a Golf GTi, only, they seem to fall between £9k for an older model, and £15k for the latest model, with no inbetween.

She loves the idea of a Golf GTi, any suggestions?

Within 30 miles of Bristol ideally. Must be newer than her Micra for some reason, and she only does around 10k a year, but she wants to keep the car for 5+ years so no moon milers.

I don't think I would look much past a MK5 GTi at that money for a woman. My wife loved hers even though she seems to want to bend it at every opportunity and also had a attraction to cameras, so it had to go, but a really good car. I suspect you could get a nice Edition 30 model for 10ish, that's where I'd go.

Seat Leon Cupra R?

Awful cars - it's a good job they gave it slightly more power than a Golf GTI because without that it would be worse than a Golf in every possible way. It really is amazing how Seat managed to take a Golf and turn it into something quite as nasty as the Mk2 Leon.

Plenty of 3 year old Mini Cooper S' from dealers for that price. One here with only 8k on the clock.

It's what car I'd love my gf to drive so I could drive one often without having to own one :)

No, that's far too good a budget for a MkV GTI. He'll want to be looking at the MkVI.

A MkVI GTI would definitely get my money over an Ed30.

What? The MK4 was crap, the Mk5 crapped on it from a huge height as a driving experience and there are loads of ED30's around 10K-11K

You will be doing very well to get the latest Golf GTi for £15K.

'It would seem'? No 'seem' about it ;).

And what does 'As you were men' mean?
