Hi,

I'm wanting to upgrade my 2 X 8GB 3200 C16 to 2 X 16GB 3600 C16

I have an ITX board with two slots and I've been reading Dual Rank is best but what's difficult is find RAM that confirms it is Dual Rank

Does anyone know of a kit that's guaranteed to be Dual Rank 3600 C16 with XMP please?

Feel like I'm going around circles trying to find them!

Thanks

As stated above every 16gb Samsung B-Die stick is dual ranked. The chips are 1024mbit and therefore you need 16 of them for a 16gb stick. The 8-Pack 2 x 16gb 3600 pack is definitely dual ranks per stick.

In that case wait for G. Skill to show its hand on pricing for its 2x16GB 3600C14 kit in ~2 weeks (they have RGB). The 8Pack isn't in stock anyway for 2 weeks so no harm.

Thanks for the heads up, isn't that already available with E Die or is there a B Die kit being released and if so how do I tell the difference?

The G.Skill high end kits aren't stocked regularly in the UK, you need to hunt around and get lucky or order them from the US. The G.Skill 4000mhz 2 x 16gb C16 kit was announced at the same time, is exactly the same bin and already has pricing available in non-RGB, RGB and Royal heatspreader configurations so you should expect £270 to £340 area pricing for the 3800mhz C14 2 x 16gb kit. I just paid £222+VAT for the non-RGB Ripjaws V 4000mhz C16 version, TridentZ RGB was £18+VAT extra and Royal RGB was £60+VAT extra - significantly more than the 8-Pack kit you were looking at. It does of course depend if RGB is worth that much to you and whether you are into memory tuning or not... If the answer to those is not really I would recommend the 8-Pack kit and saving the money.

I get the comment about RGB, not worth the extra cost imo, but why do you mention memory tuning? Is the 8-Pack kit not good for tuning? :confused:

Bought 2 x 16gb corsair RGB pro stuff. Not the best memory in the world but for 128.99 from a well known well used site its the perfect fit for my ITX 5900x Rig

Looks like it's best to go for 8 Pack kit then thanks for the info it's helped a lot.

I'll keep an eye on the pricing hopefully it comes down a bit I would feel a little more comfortable paying £200 or less seeing as though these kits are coming to the end of their life in the next 12 months or so.

my current ram I've had in three builds and had it 4/5 years so it was a good investment

8 pack kit is fine for tuning, it will just have a wider range of overclocking ability amongst the sticks than the G.Skill kits. There is no guarantee that the 8-pack kit will reach the speed the G.Skill kit sets XMP at - you pay more for the higher guaranteed low floor with the G,Skill. The G,Skill sticks will usually clock better but there's always a chance of finding a diamond set in the 8 Pack kits that clocks as well or better than the G.Skill high bin kits, its just unlikely.
If you aren't chasing max performance with your tuning the G.Skill premium isn't worth it, in that situation the 8-Pack kit is the best buy.

They were £200 when they launched a few months ago and memory prices have come down since then. Sad to see the kit price has gone up, but that's lockdown tax for you.

I wouldn't say they are end of life in around 12 months, each time a new generation of memory comes out it has always been slower than the preceding generation until it matures. Prices will likely be yikes high for enthusiast early adopters too, historically this has always been the case. DDR4 will still be relevant in terms of performance for a couple of years and then you'll have the value argument in the way of adopting because it will require an entire platform swap. Its going to be people needing to upgrade CPUs that drive DDR5 adoption early on, not people looking to upgrade memory - you cant stick DDR5 in a DDR4 system.
That all adds up to it being likely to take around 3 years before DDR4 starts to die out. This has been a similar story with SDRam -> DDR, DDR -> DDR2, DDR2 -> DDR3 and DDR3 -> DDR4. You'll see a lot of publicity from enthusiasts who want to play with the new thing, but they aren't a large market (hence the need for premium prices). Most of the customer base will be people upgrading really old systems with pre-builts or gamers/casual enthusiasts moving from DDR3.

@Relentless81 If you're wanting to buy the 8Pack kit then post in CS first about their availability, as they are showing in stock 27/11.

Last monday they were showing in stock 13/11 and so I posted in CS who confirmed that they were still due for delivery on 13/11. So, I ordered on Monday yet still received them on the Wednesday 11/11! I checked a couple of times after I received them and never saw the page update to say there was stock.

@MrPils

Nice info thanks, will be sticking with the 8Pack and wait for the price to drop a bit after the Ryzen 5000 series launch dust settles hopefully

@COYS

Thanks for tip, I'll probably just wait until they are freely available and will buy then I'm not in a massive rush I just wanted a kit confirmed to match my needs

Cheers all
