Hi Guys,

I've just bought a new CPU/Mobo/RAM and I'm thinking that I might as well upgrade the graphics card as well, think the old one is dead any way (partly why I upgraded ).

Asus P7P55D-E Pro
i5 intel 760 @ 2.8ghz (not done anything with it...yet)
Corsair XMS3 (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel

What card would you recommned for FPS gaming @ 1680x1050 (i think thats correct). Stuff like Bad Company 2, COD, any others...

Budget is £200, I don't have to spend it all, depends if the card is worth it or not

I did see a post some where on here about it might be worth waiting as a new card has come out (I have no idea about what's good any more), but can't find the post.

Any advice would be excellent.

Cheers!

you do realise you got the wrong ram? triple channel is for x58 boards not p55

Good spot, OP, send the RAM back under DSR and get dual channel replacement (unless you don't mind wasting one of the sticks).

Yep that's the one to go for. Amazing performance for £200

EDIT - Nicely self corrected even before I could, Mr Krugga........:D

Ninja edit cut my post in half the first time :p

Bah, fail on my part. Rushed the order through, should have paid more attention :( Will I be able to send back under the Distance Selling Regulations if the memory has been installed?

I believe that's what you meant to post:

Thanks for the correction! :p

My pleasure :)

Random figures from those charts above:

Radeon 5870 is 15-60% faster than GeForce 460 768MB at 1680x1050.

On average it is 33.sth, more or less a third.

You pay almost double the extra for the performance increase (62% or so).

I still think Radeon 5870 is the best bet at this price point. Radeon 5850 would be my choice at £160 (is it sold at that?) purely for its ability to match stock 5870 performance.

GeForce 460 768MB is usually regarded as an entry card of the mainstream market. Nothing below it is worth considering for gaming these days IMO.

It's a steal at the price but some may find it lacking the performance in some games.
