Spec me £250 camera

For my birthday I'm after a new camera.

features I'd like-

Great image quality, especially in low light (graininess and colours)

wide lense (not really sure what I mean here, I don't know enough about camera to know the technical term, but at "zero zoom" i'd like to be able to fit a lot of real estate in the image)

10x zoom +

Bonus Points for rechargable battery.

That's about it really, I'm not fussed about different modes and what not. I have been considering this, what are your thoughts?

I've found a 1100D with Stock lense for 230 and a Lumix G5 with stock lenses for 250- which would you go for?

I went for the Canon 1100D kit in the end on the basis that it is a more popular brand = more guides and tutorials, and more lenses. The lense is covered in ***** finger prints so I'm after a lenses cleaning kit- can any recommend one? Are the give quid sets on eBay to be avoided?

Good to know I'll get qrab a pack off eBay.

It came with an 18-55mm lense (Curry's special :/ ) so is that the equivalent of 3x zoom?
