Hi all,

who fancies helping me out?

I need 3 rigs speccing out.

Low end
Mid end
High end (gaming)

The low end machine will be used for just office work, and internet browsing

The mid end, same as the low end really, maybe some light gaming and picture work

The high end will be a gaming rig....

Budget for each is...

£400
£550
£700

If you can do it cheaper, great.

This is tower only.

Cheers guys :)

Personally I'd have said get a laptop for the low end one - has so many more advantages.

For a gaming PC and not going to the expense of an i7 setup I would have said:

Gigabyte P45 motherboard
Q6600, Q8200 or E8x00 Core 2 CPU
4gig OCZ Reaper 6400 RAM
260 MAXCORE or 4870 1gig
Couple of 500gig Seagate 7200.12s (double check the .12s don't have the firmware bug .11s have)

Depending on your useage I'd have said spreading the cost between a reasonable laptop and a cheap i7 rig would have been the better option unless you really really need 3 tower machines.

Otherwise for the cheaper ones I'd say base it around an Asus Terminator (T3) barebones system with an E7200, 2gig of the cheaper OCZ RAM (or corsair value) and an 8600GT.

Laptops arent options really....

One has to ask why 3? 700 pounds will get you a good pc but not really high end enough to be future proof.

As said above i'd make the lower end one a laptop, then split the mid range pc funds between the two i.e.

600 pound laptop.
1k pc which will allow for i7.

i threw this together in about 2 minutes, so i'm sure you can tweek it to your liking but here's what i got for £700(slightly over budget, but only by about £15 and like i say, you can chop and change to save on money):

i'll work on the other 2 if you like?

don't be ridiculous, you're in the wrong hobby if you're after 'future proof', the current i7s will be long gone by this time next year (if not this year) by faster, cheaper CPUs, as with ever single other PC component (bar the case and PSU)

Awesome, thanks pal :)

and here's the 400

which comes a lot under budget, with that one i'd have personally got for the 2200 but it wasn't in stock, as far as i saw everything else was in stock apart from the xilence fan for the £700 build (for use on the Thermalright 120a) which you can just pick another fan for really. i went for an antec case+PSU as it saves on money for this cheapy office/internet PC. i'd also drop the small HDD (you'll only really need one for this computer and it'll save another £30 (i left it in by accident)

although i'd think about AMD for the £400 PC, the motherboards seem to be cheaper for a start (edit: it works out the same as the CPUs see to cost a touch more):

Awesome thanks pal, you've saved me buckets of time :D

meh, i've got nothing to do until about 4 this morning so i can get in a good sleep pattern for my night shifts at the week end so it's not like i've got much else to do but watch Deep space nine and play my 360 for the next 7-8 hours :D
