hi, i haven't upgraded my pc in a year.

i would like to upgrade it; all i need is a cpu, mobo and ram.

i am willing to spend between £300-400 on these three;

intel core2duo [conroe] cpu
ddr2 [2gb] ram
motherboard [which chipset is "best" nowadays?]

i am a bit out of touch with the current favoured hardware
[if possible i would like to overclock the cpu to 3.0ghz~]
(last time i was here it was dfi mobo/939 amd/2gb ddr combination which was most preferred)

so i would like to know which are the preferred/favourable hardware setups at the moment [and near future] for cpu/mobo/ram? for preferably around or under £400

[i do not want to spend excessively, was thinking a e6600, geil 2gb ddr2 ram and ??? mobo]

thankyou.

Will_3rd's specification looks unsurprisingly good, you could consider going for the DS3R if you want support for both DDR2 and DDR3 (not really needed at the moment but it doesn't hurt to have the support) and it is a shade cheaper too. :)

thanks for the first spec.

what about for a £400~ mark? :)

thanks :)

also i am probably going to upgrade after this intel price cut (July 22nd 2007?)

and so i would be interested in the Q6600 or the E6600 [or the E6750?]

how would that fit into the scheme of things?

It depends on how much the prices are dropped by, the rumour appears to be that the prices will roughly half but I'll believe it when I see it. Until that point I wouldn't count on it. If you can afford the Q6600 because of a price drop then there is no harm in getting it. :)

okay, thanks a lot; i will wait untill then i guess.

so these P35 chipset motherboards seem to be the popular choice.

and as for 2gb of ddr2 memory, which are the 2-3 most popular choices at the moment (forum wise)?

okay thanks :)

more specifically which kits from each of those manufacturers?

Cellshock - Anything from them
Crucial - Ballistix
GeIL - Ultra Low Latency PC6400
G.Skill - HZ
OCZ - Not sure, I think the "Vista ready" stuff.

They're the most popular anyway.
