Hey guys, been out of the gaming loop for a while.

Current system is Q6600 clocked at 3.2GHZ 10GB ram OCZ SSD 2x1TB raid storage drives. Also bought an ATI 7950 Last week. Corsair PSU.

Currently game @ 1920 res.

My question is i have about 4-500 to spend on CPU/MOBO/Mem upgrade - whats the best these days? with the Q6600 it was a no brainer, AMD had nothing is that still the case? The AMD 8 cores look pretty sweet and a bit cheaper, but you get what you pay for!

Cheers guys..

Are all your drives SATA type?

What OCZ SSD is it? if its an older Sandforce controller then these don't like the new Intel Z87 chipsets.

Hmm well it wont work with a Z87 board (Google it) unless you replace it.

So AMD it is unless you replace the SSD?

Here's an alternative for high clocks, assuming the H100 fits.

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £119.99
1 x Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 AMD 990X (Socket AM3+) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £109.99
1 x Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (PVI38G160C9K) £53.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H100 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler *Manufacturer Refurbished Unit - 90 Day Guarantee £44.99
1 x Corsair SP120 Quiet Series High Pressure Low Noise - Dual Pack (CO-9050006-WW) £25.99
Total : £365.75 (includes shipping : £9.00).

You could also get the higher end Sabertooth board since it's under budget, that can take the CPU typically to 5GHz.

Nice one guys tbh ive always liked the thought of water cooled so the h100 is appealing to me.. Seems i have a lot to think about and read upon.

The OCZ has better R/W speeds than those listed for the toshiba... perhaps i have a diff model to what a mentioned above! will have to check im sure it was 550/530

So is the I7 the chip to go for? If money wasn't an issue? I can hold out a few weeks and increase budget to 8-900 if it makes that much of a diff...

I know tech changes daily, but ideally want as future proof as can be, if that means paying a few more hundred now then that makes sence to me..

If you're upping your budget, then a 4770K and add another 7950 :)

The H100's stock fans are very noisy, so I'd recommend replacing them.
