so any ideas?

Cheap & PSU are too words that shouldnt go together. A 430W seasonic will save you about £5, but you really won't get a decent PSU for anything less.
If you drop the CPU down a grade, then you won't be able to get a dual-core. Is an a64 3800 really a worthwhile, if you have an a64 3000? I'd say stick with your a64 3000, buy the x1800, and upgrade to an X2 when you can afford it.
Another consideration in this purchase is the minimum spec of the x1800xt. It says it requires a 450W PSU. I know this recommendation is probably based on a high performance PC under full load with a bunch of extra HDs & peripherals - but its something you should be aware of.

Totally!

As unde4d says, if you've got your heart set on an x1800 you should get that first and upgrade the rest when you can. That's assuming your old graphics card is AGP?

The 430 Watt Seasonic S12 can definately handle an X1800 XT, you don't have to spend a fortune but you will need something with oopmh (and that doesn't just mean the Wattage in the model name) ;) I'd suspect the Tagan would be the same but I'm not up on those.

This spec would be faster, I haven't added a mobo but you could get the Asrock 775Twins-HDTV R2.0 which costs about £40 and supports both DDR2 and DDR1 ram. Unfortunatly ocuk don't sell this.

CP-135-IN Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - OEM (CP-135-IN) 1
£109.95 £109.95
CA-000-SS Seasonic S12 430W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply (CA-000-SS) 1
£39.95 £39.95
GX-044-CO Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO) 1
£126.95 £126.95
HS-017-AR Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) (HS-017-AR) 1
£19.95 £19.95
Subtotal £296.80
VAT £51.94
Total £348.74

Asrock mobo which supports ddr1 and ddr2 - £40?
X1800XT - £150
E6400 - £160
Seasonic 430W - £45

All inc.VAT

That comes to about £395 although my prices are not 100% correct I dont think. This PC should own Zen's and dont have to go through all the trouble with SLI.

is this spec any good?
(writing it out otherwise it seems to mess up)

AMD X2 3800 AM2 Socket
Asus A2M-E
Connect 3D ATI Radeon X1800 GTO AVIVO
Akaska Ultra Quiet 460W Pax Power PSU

Total: £367.94

wont work with your current RAM im afraid. both AM2 and core 2 duo use DDR2, you will most likely have DDR1 which is incompatible

ok, guess ill get a gig of that

Corsair 1GB DDR2 Value Select PC5300 Dual Channel Kit (2x512MB) (VS1GBKIT667D2) (MY-083-CS)

£69.27

Total £437.21

any kind of savings i can make in all that stuff? would a 400w akaska be enough?

Not meaning to sound rude or anything but whats wrong with the spec which lee or me made? It will be twice as good as the system you have just said.

But if you still dont want to I'd change the PSU to a Seasonic S12 430W and the mobo to an asrock.

Wouldnt really recommend a X1800 GTO though the X1800XT is definately worth the extra money.
