LOOK GOOD??

Is that a 2500K or just a 2500

The difference is,

• Better onboard GPU core, Lucid Virtu allows the CPU graphics core to be used to save energy during simple tasks and also switchs to the GPU core to speed up some processing tasks.

• The K also has an unlocked multiplier making overcloking easier.

2500 ahh no this is just 2500 no K on the end, so that puts a tenner back on it

thanks for pointing that out, i wouldnt of noticed the K not being there

sorry, not meaning to be ignorant but, will the lucid virtu make any difference if he is using a dedicated gfx card? also, i know overclocking on the whole is considered stable and easily done on the sandybridges, but from what the OP says he uses it for, would there not be a risk using an oc'd system to do editing work, as any instability would be more noticable and problematic than in something like gaming?

yeah, after answering i was thought to myself.. Do i really need to overclock?

YES I KNOW THE CLUE IS IN THE TITLE OF THIS FORUM!!
don't get me wrong, i am a fan of squeezing a little more out of chips.. My little intel atom is running at 2.1ghz and the machine before this was a 4600+ clocked too 3.2ghz... and neither really gave me any grief..

fact is, I probably wont oc it.. but for a tenner! Might aswell have the option eh

Yes it will make a difference, if a program is supported by the Lucid software then it will speed up processing.

If the OP has a Nvidia card that has CUDA then it will also speed up processing where applicable.

But he says he has a 4830, so no CUDA.

you can overclock the CPU core independent of the built in GPU core too, and if the overclock is stable and fully tested in say Prime95 then no issues.

are these features mainly/fully limited to the Z68 range?

EDIT : oh and reference to the 32-64bit thing, i have tried it on 2 HP laptops and a samsung and when it gets to inserting the key it refuses, but it worked fine on an acer and lenovo laptop and a dell desktopm so i guess its luck of the draw.

Yes, only a Z68 board has Lucid Virtu.

But not all Z68 boards either, a lot of the Gigabytes dont have it.

i dont know if its just me, but when i was looking for my mobo, i felt that gigabyte seemed very limited on specs for the money, whereas biostar and asrock give loads of stuff (a lot you wont use) for a lot less money.

Just out of interest, I realise I am stepping very close to the line here but is that all from one place? Or did you order bits from everywhere? Making me think I could possibly drop 4gb of RAM and the SSD, add in a HDD and a GPU and the total would be around £500 but I don't really want to be buying bits from different retailers.

Edit: How the F have you done that? I have tried combinations of every website I can think of and can't get that combo for lower than 450. Unless you went to the bay? props to you

i had that priced at 470ish from ******.. i just got a deal on the cpu from ebay for 108 saving me 50quid, and got the rest there..

oooh see the name of the shop is removed (i would too if this was my board) I bought everything but the cpu from E---buyer..

Thanks but edit that, this is why I wasn't asking for the specific shop name as you can get into trouble for writing other shop names. Good luck with the CPU then, personally I'm a bit weird when it comes to 'auction sites' and for something like a CPU I wouldn't want to get one from there. I rather the guaranteed "new-ness". I guess its going to be a phenom after all for me :L

hmm yeah i know what you mean about the action site concern, but the seller appears legit, its sold as brand new sealed, and he has already sold 15 out of 25.. i took the risk
