Hey all, i'm looking at putting together a PC for the GF got around 500 to spend on it atm and a 285 gtx sat about i'll probably make use of but i'll need a case too for it.

She'll be using it mainly for 3d animation (5-10 min shorts) and model rendering. There'll be a decent amount of gaming done on it as well, on a wide range of games.

Been looking at an i5 based system:
i5 2500k
unsure on mobo choice right now want to be able to to fairly simple OC'ing
HAF 912
Cooler Master GX 550
gelid tranquillo
1TB deskstar 7k1000
LG GH22NS70 22x DVD±RW
Corsair XMS3 8GB - unsure currently how much use 8 GB would be over 4 in the sort of things should be doing opinions on this welcome.

got a spare monitor and set of standard peripherals kicking about to make use of too.

Budget may be stretched if it's going to make a significant improvement.

Opinions and suggestions very welcome.

I don't think multi GPU for games but she did mention something about there may be rendering solutions that can make use of such a setup so it'd be handy to have the ability to expand that way but not necessary

on x4/x4 you'll lose ~25% performance over x8/x8. there is no difference between x8/x8 and x16/x16 with current graphics cards

now if i could just find out where the hell i got that info from. i can picture the website clearly, but i cant remember its name
