a spec for a friend. needs all peripherals and monitor but no OS. and he would love a 5770 if possible. he may stretch a bit over 600 quid so dont worry making it exact.

thanks guys!

Jake

He will struggle with that. how good does he want the monitor and other stuff to be.

e/ Might be worth him going down say, DDR2 1066mhz, Q6600 oc'd to 3.2GHz, and a 780i board?

edit: took me a while to write that last bit for some reason...

awesome build Cat. ill take out those speakers as i forgot he has a nice hifi system already. get him a better keyboard haha. or maybe pump up the budget a little bit more and get a better motherboard. looks pretty bottom of the line the MSI one. correct me if i'm wrong! how would that run BFBC2 do you reckon?

thanks

BFBC2 runs better on a quad core IIRC. However you maybe able to unlock the X2 545 to a quad core if you are lucky. This is not guaranteed.

The MSI is a well regarded budget motherboard:

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/motherboards/2009/09/17/msi-770-c45-motherboard-review/1

The newer examples of the motherboard have ACC enabled which means you can unlock cores.

The motherboard I would get after the MSI one would be this Asus motherboard:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-355-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1481

It has a split 8 phase VRM with cooling which the cheaper motherboards lack. This will be better for core unlocking and overclocking.

The Phenom II X4 955BE is available for £128:
