Hi, I posted before asking for an £800 spec, and was recommended an Intel rig. I would like some AMD and Intel rigs please because I would like to know the relative pros and cons of each and to know what is really best for the cash.

I need a monitor and keyboard, but have just bought a new mouse and I already have the OS lined up.

I am a Computer Science student, so would need a machine for that work (Java, databases etc) but also to play a few new games on,

Spec me please! :)

Intel is currently king in-terms of performance. Search around the net & even here on this forums & you'll quickly verify that.

Your budget allows for a very good Intel based PC.

So would you suggest maybe an e2180 and clock the proverbials off it, or getting a higher spec one like an e6750 or a q6600 and leaving it (relatively) alone?

Also, what mobo would you reccomend for price + performance?

Thanks for the advice so far

it would be better for you to tell us what you need from the MB, these may include raid, no of sata and ide ports, wireless etc. we will then find the one to suit you at a reasonable price, most p35 chipset based MBs will overclock the C2D/Q with ease

OK, sorry about that. RAID would be a plus, and enough SATA to connect two HDDs and 1 Optical Drive. Wireless isn't important as there's only wired connections in Halls, and SLi or Crossfire aren't important either as I can't stretch to two GFX cards at the mo.

Thanks again

abit ip35 may be a good choice, if raid is important. i dotn know how good the raid controller is though

the ocuk ip35 pro does not have raid, but has the rest of *** features that you want

I don't know if you're interested in 2nd hand at all? I have a high end system for sale that'll cost much less, but I've only just joined this forum, so I'm not allowed to use the marketplace on here yet. :). I have it for sale on another forum, but I don't think I'm allowed to say which on here!
If you're interested email [email protected] and I'll email you the specs so you can have a look.
Regards, Rich

Other than that, looks good mate.
