Spec me a £100 Graphics Card

That's a very good price... doubt there's any left though since OCUK takes ages to update their stock number.

What I mean is that games are becoming more and more shader intensive and I believe that the 320 shaders of the 3850 will perform better in future games.

I see what you mean but people have been saying that since 2900XT was out almost a year ago.

True, true. I think I'm starting to realize that I'm wrong :p

Anyway, I've just purchased another 3850 and P5E board for crossfire...so it looks like I'll be sticking with ATI for a little while longer. I'd be much more inclined toward SLI if Nvidia chipsets were more attractive. The ones that ARE attractive in the least bit are extremely expensive.

Shader power isn't everything. Sure, over the years it's become more necessary, but it's still not the only number that counts. For example, the 9600 GT actually has more pixel fillrate power than the 8800 GT, and much more than the 8800 GS.

Then the thing with the R600 style core's 320 5-way super scalar processors vs. the G80 style cores 128 stream processors running at 2.5x the clock speed of the core. Just looking at the shader clock, you can see that G80 style GPUs get a massive advantage in that department, and of course the R600 style scalar processors aren't comparable to G80's stream processors - they're quite a different technology. (edit: Now that I did the maths, 128*2.5 = 320... Hm, conspiricy? :p)

And of course G80 style GPUs, particularly G92, have smackfulls more texturing power than comparable Radeon GPUs...

Well I can inform you that Vachyre has seen the light and (as long as the OcUK stock numbers are correct) the B Grade Gainward 8800GT for £99 should be winging (well, Citylinking) its way to him soon! Welcome to the GT Club!
