Not got money to burn as i want to spend a decent bit on monitor, but can a decent 1440p system be had for £800

i have i5 4670k with a 280x msi
8gb of ddr3 ram
120gb ssd
1tb hd
Rubbish power supply with wires every where -Forgot the name
and an ugly case

i basically want to build a new one and just keep my hard drives so will need everything else as budget as possible. I was told at a pc shop near me that my cpu would bottle neck new cards, i also would like a power supply thats fully modular -Can all this be done for under a 1k ?

Unless current PC is falling apart, you better wait for release of Zen2 Ryzens in Computex in end of May.
Those will bring notable increase to performance per money.
9900K level processing power might drop to fair £200.

There are also rumours of AMD possibly releasing new graphics cards around same time.
Graphics cards could also use major increase of competition.

Also that SSD is such tiny would suggest getting new one for OS and enough space for some games.
240GB ones start from £30 and 500GB ones from £50.

There would have have been excellent discounts on Antec PSUs couple days earlier.
Anyway Bitfenix Formula would be starting level for modern PC.

For modular cables Bitfenix Whisper M is cheapest with 7 year warranty.

After that come 10 year warranty Antec HCG Gold and Seasonic Focus Plus Gold.

every time i go to think about doing it theres always something new out iv gone to build or upgrade 3/4 times in the last few years an just havent done it because of waiting for X product.

i want to build a new system with whats around currently i was thinking of a 1070 as i have seen them for £225 new which i was going to build a system around a while ago back when they was £400

and SSD's when i bought that were very expensive -good to see they have dropped significantly

Actually it's been very long time since this kind performance increase happened last time.
Except for year and half Intel's updates have been incremental for whole earlier decade.

^^ @EsaT is right.

Problem is, is that your present CPU (clocked) will run most games at a comfortable FPS when paired with a decent GPU (thanks to these incremental updates).

You could upgrade your GPU now (RTX 2070 would pair nicely with 1440p - and give you more time to save) in preparation for your full upgrade in July when Ryzen is released. Whether that be (hopefully) a hype-fulfilled Ryzen 3000 build or a price reduced INTEL CPU/chipset.

RTX 2060 or Vega 56 for 1440p 60hz gameplay

RTX 2070 or Vega 64 for 1440p 144hz

As above, Ryzen .should be shown Computex beginning of June Paper Launch, July Q3 retail launch .
In theory if you haven't got a monitor could grab one along with GPU and PSU to keep your i5 ticking over, which should be fine for 70% of current games out there. Only latest AAA titles it will be weak

Specially with a Few Antec PSU units on sale.. at £40 off.. if your self build, if grab one of those now
