Spec me a £1k pc build?

Hello,

I have tried several times to spec myself a PC, as this is my first time I am getting things slightly wrong. So, I turn to you experts for help.

Could you spec me a £1000 gaming PC. I'd like to stay around £1k. A few hundred over or under is okay though.

Now the specifics... I'd like to see the internals as I want a black and lime green theme (LED's I guess) and I'd like the ability to water cool it in the future.

Fire away :)

Nope, that's my budget for the entire build! I don't have an old rig. This will be my first.

What I mean by "I have tried several times to spec myself a PC" is that I have added components to my basket, got a spec together, then I will notice that one part is compatible with another, then I have to start over....

If that makes sense

Is there any particular case you like?

Cases can be a very personal choice so if you give us a few options you like the look of?

I could have been more specific couldn't I.

To be honest, the only one I seem to be drawn to is the Corsair Obsidian 750D. I always chose that one when I try to spec my own PC. I like it because its big enough to do a lot more with in the future, its got a large side window, and a very minimal design. And its all one colour.

Keyboard/mouse/monitor isn't an issue at the moment. So this is budget just for the case and everything inside it :) Once that is built, then Ill look at the peripherals.

And finally... good point! I always forget the operating system. Windows 10 is the norm I guess?

With the tight budget I'd say just get a copy of Windows 10 OEM from fleabay. Will cook one up for you soon.

Just slightly over budget i know, i tried cutting where i could, as you expressed an interest in adding a 2nd GPU in your other thread i picked a higher watt PSU than i would do for a single GPU.

Also tried to stick to your colour choice.

I know you wanted the Corsair 750D but the Phanteks is a good case and comes with full RGB lighting so you can pick that lime green colour you want.

Tight budget? Crickey I thought the £700-£800 I was originally planning to spend was tight haha.

This is the most up to date spec sheet I have created myself. Grand total of £988.41 (missing OS though)

Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB Internal Hard Drive
Corsair Obsidian 750D Full Tower PC Case
Samsung 250GB 750 EVO SSD/Solid State Drive MZ-750250BW
Corsair Vengeance White LED 16GB DDR4 3000 Memory Kit 2x 8GB
Intel Core i5 6600K Skylake CPU + ASRock Z170 Extreme4 Motherboard
Sapphire NITRO+ RX480 8GB AMD Graphics Card
Corsair 650 Watt RMx Fully Modular RM650X ATX PSU

I was then thinking about getting one of those DIY water cooling CPU kits, just to start getting used to setting up a simple loop.

That looks like a tidy build! I didn't think to go with a MOBO that matches the colour theme I wanted!

as I said, I'd be willing to spend an extra few hundred £ if needed, so that isn't too much over the budget :)

Armageus,

Thanks for that! so, what are the differences between the RX470 and the RX480? I know the Sapphire 480 isn't out yet, but what is the benefit of the 480 over the 470?

Nope, don't need a monitor, I have one at home. Its not the best to be honest, but it will do for the time being :)
Once the PC is built and working, then I will start looking to get a better monitor.

The RX480 is marginally faster (~5%), but the RX470 will be fine at 1080P Screen resolution.

I included a monitor in my build as wasn't sure what you had. If you already have a reasonable one then I would switch to an 8GB RX480, a 500GB SSD, and maybe an all in one water cooler for the CPU.

Armageus- I thoughat as much. I'm not bothered about 4k 60fps (yet) so it looks like the 470 is more than capable at 1080 :)

Artery- Not at all. £1500 is the most I want to spend on the case and internals. I'd rather spend less if I can... who wouldn't! But, I also don't want to knee cap myself by limiting the budget to a hard £1k.

Sell red LED cooler fan, replace with Riing green LED fan.

Go over the leds on the RAM with a green sharpie.

GPU has RGB logo on the side to set colour you want.

Green cable extensions.

White LED strip to illuminate interior and highlight things without drowning everything in green.

Borrow DVD re-writer or download Windows 10 ISO from Microsoft onto a USB stick to install the OS, saves £15 compared to the USB version.

Would look sexy but if you are serious about watercooling probably best to go with a different case as options are limited with this one.
