First of all thanks for clicking on this thread.

Background and use of new rig.

This will be my first solo build but i have built several before with mates.
Im looking to use the rig to play games on and do some tinkering with photoshop and after effects cs5 when it finally comes out. Screen wise I will be using mainly two 22" full hd monitors and on the odd ocassion a 32" hd tv also.
So it would be very helpful for the graphics card two have one if not more hdmi slots.

I also do a lot of recording with my hdpvr and hopefully a black magic intensity pro so as a result of this i need a fairly large hardrive if possible two would be greatly aprreciated.

Im planning on using this pc for a couple of years or so, so as a result of this I would like some of the newer hardware if its possible, for example usb 3.0 and an i5 or i7.

Apart from that you have creative lisence to adapt and include anything you want =).

Thank you in advanced.

Ps I can stretch to around 1.3k if everything is perfect.

Nope, just plug them into the SATA ports on the motherboard, I tend to plug the BOOT hard drive into SATA port one.

One drive will be for windows the other for storage.

Question...you can do the overclock yourself or haven't got a clue where to start? If you don't know how to overclock and don't want the hassle of learning it and spend a whole day tweaking/testing it, you could consider a i7 920 4.0GHz overclocked bundle:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-171-OK&groupid=43&catid=339&subcat=
Until the 28th April, that i7 920 4.0GHz overclocked bundle's offer with £44 off discount and price now at £506, it is cheaper than buying the parts separately and the 4.0GHz pre-overclock comes free! (i7 920 £180+Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R £157+Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel £140+Titan Cooler £30+Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound £7=total £514!)

That motherboard does not have USB3.0 port or 6GB/s SATA. If you consider any i7 bundle, only consider the one base on the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R, as at the moment this board is socket 1366 king, for being the best value and fastest board. Also, i7 930 and i7 920 is same speed if both are clocked at 4.0GHz.

My recommendation for the other components would be pretty much same as RJC's, except for the PSU I would recommend the Antec TruePower 650W over the Corsair 650W:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-117-AN&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1088
The Antec TruePower 650W PSU not only is one of the most reliable PSU, but it actually got pair of 6-pin PCI-E and pair of 8 pin PCI-E cable (Corsair 650W only got pair of 6+2 pin PCI-E cable).

Also if you don't mind spending the extra, you can get one more 5850 to crossfire intead of just getting one.

Also is there much difference inbetween the oc'ed set i linked and the one you linked?
Not really, except your quoted bundle is more expensive that uses more expensive components (doesn't always mean it's better performance), and the Asus P6TD motherboard is slightly slower than the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R, but lacking the two USB3.0 ports and two 6GB/s SATA. Also it is charging about £50-70 premium for the overclock.

i7 920 and i7 930 overclocked to 4.0GHz is the same speed, and the difference between the C9 and the C8 Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 is minimal...it doesn't justify you spending £74 over my suggested bundle at all...as they are almost identical except for the £74 extra in price...

Have a compare between the £505.98 and the £579.97 bundle again:

thanks very much, do you know of any cases that have 4+ usb outputs? as im stuglling to find one with that and the two usb 3.0 outputs?

The two USB3.0 port is on the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R motherboard, so I would imagine you would need to connect the USB3.0 devices (in the future) to the back of the case where the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R ports are located (or get a extension core/cable or something). Don't think there are cases for direct USB3.0 output yet...

u said u plan to use linux, is that on this system you want to build, and what do you plan on using it for ?

the main problem is for linux, the ati drivers suck. And u'll have difficulty getting them to work correctly and with dual monitor display.

so if you plan to use linux a lot, u might want to think about an nvidia card instead as the drivers are much much better, but this would sacrifice some GPU power

linux would be a secondary operating system, that i would only plan to use when windows ****es me off to the extent one of the screens goes out the window.
