current setup is as follows

e2160 running at 2.2ghz(maxium i can get out the mobo)
gigabyte 945gcmx-2
2 gig generic pc5300 ram
1900xtx
500w powersupply(actually quite decent)
dell 2007FP 1600x1200

was thinking along the lines of a good clocking mobo and decent cooler to get another ghz of speed out of the poor underused 2160

something like as asus p5k and an freezer pro and then another 2 gig or pc5300 but i'm sure i'll get some better suggestions from here :)

main uses are um gaming and um gaming,(mainly fm2008 and a bit of cod 4 which actually seems to run rather happily as is

reason i ask is that the p5k is a over the top in terms of features

i need

100mb/sec network port
1x eide for my dvd drive
some sata ports
on board sound

oh and the option of raid would be nice but not required

How about a gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L, Freezer 7 Pro and upping the memory to 2Gig of pc2-6400?

Simply adding another 2Gig of pc2-5300 is pointless unless you've got 64-bit OS.

how does the ga-p35-ds3l clock?

assuming it will max out a 2160 to over 3ghz

how does this look?

Product Name Qty Price Line Total

GA-P35-DS3R

Mate has taken the E2180 to 3Ghz on stock cooling with loads of 60 degrees on the L, which is almost the same. With the Freezer 7 and some PC2-6400 RAM you will easily get 3Ghz+

My Vote:

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (76.36)
OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK) (£34.06)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775) (£17.61)

Shipping : £8.25

Total : £137.73

But do you really need RAID?

nah no new gfx waiting on the new 9 series :)

so need mobo ram and cooler for a decent oc on a 2180?

guys?

what u reckon
