Hi,
I'm currently using an 8-port switch and just patching different devices or outlets in as and when I need them - so it's time for a 24 port gigabit switch I think!
I'm not the most savvy in this area to be honest, I'm not sure if I need a managed switch or not - I guess if I'm not sure then I probably don't...but...
just a quick question - I have a NAS, and I have an AVR (networked amplifier) the AVR only needs to see the NAS and nothing else - it never needs to see any other device on the network except the NAS. When our computers are on or other devices are on it sees them all and clutters the menus up a lot. it's only used for playing music stored on the NAS and doesn't need to have anything else in the list... IF there is something on a switch that can section do this I'd like to know what the feature is called and if it's possible in my budget. I'm not sure if VLAN covers this, but It needs to work so that everything else can still see the NAS too - I honestly don't know if such a feature is possible or not.
I have another AVR in a guest room which has a similar issue, although it's not used much, but I don't want guests having access to other stuff on the network, or being confused by all the devices on the menu.
needs:
-rackmountable
-full gigabit (not gigabit on only 4 ports like some offer)
-not too loud, although it's in a dedicated cupboard so It's not a deal breaker.
-power efficient.
-new or used
-PoE would be nice
-under £100
So far I've looked at the DGS-1210-28 which I found on a similar thread from 2013. It's a bit over budget though.
The other one I was looking at is the TP-link TL-SG1024DE which is within budget and seems decent enough.
