Spec me a 27" monitor please.

Doubtful you will find anything else to be honest.

• Its on offer
• You need to spend a lot more to get a higher resolution at 27"

Fair enough, thanks. I will try convince him to get a 23-24" but he probably want's a 27" because it's bigger. Do they still look good at 1080p 27"?

I bought a B Grade 27" Hazro about 3 months ago, cost me £240. Worth checking the clearance section on the website.

Look in the Grand Opening thread, no idea how many they have and I assume there will be loads of uni kids waiting at god knows what time for the 7970's. :p

Ok my brother is trying to decide between the 23" http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-049-AS&groupid=17&catid=1425&subcat= and the 27" version. I think both panels would look nice, but we aren't sure it the 27" at 1080p would be a bad choice for picture quality? Would the desktop look stretched? I assume 1080p playback and gaming will look fine.

We would go to the opening and get 1 DGM each but we don't trust there is enough of them in stock to accommodate the amount of people showing up for them. Also a 300mile round trip with work after.

I AM THE BROTHER.

Anyone experienced 1080p on a 27"?

Or should I drop down to the 23"?

Cheers everyone for your feedback so far.

You are the brother! I have a 1440p 27", and 1080p looks pretty **** on it, but that may be because it isn't its native res or because I'm used to 1440p. I would consider a high quality 24" monitor like this

You will be VERY happy with the colour quality if it's anything like my U2711

If you're really really serious about FPS gaming, you might not be amazed by the response times for fast-paced action, but I play a lot of fps games on my Dell, and I don't notice it. I'd much rather have nice colours for the 90% that I spend on my desktop than have yellow whites and washed out colours but a responsive panel while I'm gaming.

i use a 27" 1080p and does exactly what i need it to, some will say 27" is too large for 1080 and some not, i guess it all a matter of preference.

but for me i would pick a 27" over a 23" as i like em big

My brother might not mind 1080p at 27" but after seeing 32" 1080p desktop I'm wasn't blown away by it. I'd rather save up for a 1440p or get a 24" like my current BenQ but an IPS panel.

I like the look of the DELL monitors but I'd have to get a 16:9 because I spend 50% of my pc time gaming or on Netflix. 16:10 isn't wide enough for me and I don't do much on the desktop. 2560x1440 would be ideal for me but can't afford it right now.

I guess it really depends how close you are to the screen, gaming might look slightly worse up close but probably look fine. Watching movies would be the same at a distance I would think.

I guess I will get 24" to be safe as its a massive price gap for a 27" 1440, and I would have to upgrade the computer I haven't even paid my brother for yet to play games at that resolution.

I currently use a business laptop with integrated graphics to play games and watch movies etc, so anything is a massive upgrade ;)

Although I like them big, I'm going to have to settle for 3 inches less.

Thanks for all your help!

P.S Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't a 24" a stretched out 22"? So wouldn't 22" inch have the best picture?

It depends on pixel pitch I think. More pixels per inch should give better picture. So really, 23" should be better than 24". But just barely.

Asus 23" Pixel Pitch : 0.2652mm
Random 24" Pixel Pitch : 0.270mm
Asus 27" Pixel Pitch : 0.311mm

27" has bigger pitch, so less pixels in an inch, due to massive size on lower resolution. The difference between 23" and 24" is much less. I prefer 24" personally, it's bigger and doesn't really look any different to my eyes.

I currently have 2 x 27 inch monitors next to each other. one 2560x1440, and one 1080p

There is no denying that 2560x1440 looks nicer and sharper, but I would not say that 1080p is horrible. In fact, I am considering going to a single 32 inch tele as monitor to simplify my setup and make it look nicer.

However, almost all 27 inch 1080p are tn panels, which don't have as nice colours as ips and worse viewing angles.

There should have been a whole stack of 1080p ips monitors out this year I am sure, but hardly any have materialised.

Unlless you can get to the store and are lucky enough to grab one of the £200 2560 screens, you budget is almost certainly going to leave you with only TN panels screens at 27 inch.

If it were up to me, I would either go 24 inch ips screen, or 1080p 27 inch TN.

The Asus 27" my brother want's is an IPS panel, but 1080p. the 23" version is also IPS but is £70 cheaper at same res. It's just the price difference between the £300 1080p and a £520 1440p that puts me off getting a 27" 1080p. But with 1440p you need the hardware to play games at that res.
