Spec me a £300 machine, that is capable of playing the odd game

As above really. I got a mate who would like a new system built, im in the middle of speccing him a system so once its done ill post.

His max budget is £300

He needs

Case
PSU
Processor
RAM
HDD
Graphics Card


(OS & DVD-RW) is already sorted

I would like to try and get him either on the entry level i3 set-up, or the equivalent AMD system, atleast 4GB RAM (OCZ or GeIL), Hard drive, id say either a 320GB or a 500GB hard drive must be Western Digital preferred, if not seagate, nothing else, graphics he would like to be able to play the odd game but its not going to be used as a "gaming machine"

Onboard is shocking!

Might be worth dropping the Athlon down to a X2, and swapping the motherboard for the 760G chipset.

This would let you get a second hand graphics card like a HD4850 or HD4870

Some nice budget systems there. Why not look a the members market or second hand for graphics cards, should be able to get a 5770 for about £60.

PS 95thrifles, great to see the sticky being updated.
