looking for a new plaything to sit alongside the taxi toy,

budget 3k and what i'm looking for is

bigger saloon circa mondeo or larger.
more than 4 cylinders although a 4 pot may be considered if its interesting
something a bit different.
fast and by that i mean sub 7 seconds to 60
reliability and running costs are not an issue as its a weekend toy
some sort of cool factor would be nice :)

Mondeo V6 st 24 or similar
big engined 5 series
E36 6 cylinder

spec me some muchos chunky fast and toys would be nice :)

i think theres one on a well known auction site for under 3k right now. I've seen the mk1 models sell for between 2.5k and 5k depending on condition I think you should get a decent enough one for 3k

Mondeo ST200. 0-60 7.something, quite rare.
BMW 528i SE manual. 0-60 6.8 seconds, 0-100 18.4 seconds, 148mph. Will be shabby for £3k, though.

Volvo V70R.

Prefacelift.

Congratulations, you've managed to miss both his main requirements by such a huge margin your post has taken on comedy proportions :D

He says £3k. The cheapest V70R on Autotrader is £5.5k.
He says saloon, the V70R is an Estate.

Quite why MrSix quoted it for truth I don't know :p

Volvo S40 T4 should be considered for that budget. 0-60 between 6.7 and 7.2 seconds depending who timed it(7.2 is the official time). 1/4 mile in 15.4@94mph and massive fun. Running cost are good too, even with my short fast journeys its over 24mpg and goes well over 30mpg on a 90mph run loaded.

Get a grip you pedantic fool.

All you managed to do was to spew out your usual BMW 5 series or Mondeo garbage.

If you look hard enough Volvo R's can be found cheap and they are not all dogs either.

It was merely a suggestion, who do think you are, the OCUK car police?

Lancer Evo 2/3.
not so much on the toys front, uber reliable, saloon and much quicker than your requirements.

I test drove a 166, lovely piece of kit but on low profiles the ride was just a tad too harsh for it. Supposedly a "Sporty" touch I guess but easily changed :)

Interior and engine were fantastic though. I suspect you could get one VERY cheap from an auction now as they're that kind of car i.e. the only way they could depreciate faster would be if you drove it off a cliff.

Couple of people I know have had theirs for quite a while now with no major issues and do a lot of the work themselves to make sure it stays tip top :)
