As the title suggests, please spec me a rig that can handle The Sims 3 maxed out aNd any other games that come out on medium settings.

So long as they are playable.

The system will primarily be word processing etc anyway so a nice fast system for £400.

Do not need monitor, please add Keyboard n Mouse.

It can be a few hairs over £400 too.

Thanks a million!

Its a bit over budget but its an excellent gaming pc

change the gfx card to the OcUK GeForce GTX 460 in the nvidia refurb section and put the difference in the spec listed into a better psu, 6870's need a 500w psu minimum, something like the OCZ ZS Series 550W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply should be ok (£55).

unless you can extend the budget to get the ocz psu as well as the 6870.

that is just unnecessary, the gx450 80plus is MORE than enough for that build.

This PSU paranoia goes too far on ocuk.

The radeon 4850 has a minimum of 450W requierment but im running it fine now for 1 and a half years on a 250W FSP psu.

hows it going to far when you run a system spec that is what the manufacturer recommends ?

Tbh, if i had a choice i would take a psu over 450.

Friend's computer, onboard soundcard went but system was working fine apart from that. Took him an old soundcard,(by old i mean an xfi that i lent from work) plugged it in.. system stopped booting. Finally thought humm i'll unplug the dvd rom and see if its the power. Oh and it boots.

Having less, Trying to do somethign later and finding you need to replace the whole unit is worth than just getting a psu that wont be used to its full potential.

But yes, for now it'll work fine

cos they will always recommened far higher than acually need be its like a bullet proof vest having a disclaimer saying "this vest does not protect the wearer against bullets or sharp objects"

Its just so you dont sue them.

each to there own i guess, its a chance you take like wearing a seatbelt, i'd prefer to play it safe rather than lose kit i've paid a decent amount for.
