Looking to either replace or upgrade my 2600k main rig

Spec

2600k @4.0ghz
Gigabyte ds3 mobo
280x
Pair of 840 Samsung ssd
And a couple of mechanicals and sound card etc etc
Currently lives in a nzxt phantom which I'm happy to either retain or replace

Currently copes with all my 1080p gaming but I really fancy the jump to 4k

No real budget in mind but cheaper would be nicer

Get a huge PSU and a R9 295.

See how that copes. Then update other stuff if you still are not happy.

Have a 850 ocz cpu and a h100i

In l honesty though I quite fancy building a new rig ideally sff and pass my current rig over to my son

well give a price and let someone spec you

as you will need a complete system if your giving this one away.

so o/s?

new monitor?

keyboard / mouse / speakers?

or just a base unit then?

nice spec's from both above, but for me if i was spending 2k, i wouldn't have a HDD in it

Seagate SSHD 7200RPM 3.5" 2TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache for a extra bit it costs and then at least your backup or data drive fo games will be somewhat quicker

up to 3 to 4 times, Performs 4× faster than 7200 RPM desktop HDDs as quoted in there doc's

I think the SSHD's are a bit of a waste currently. When you can get 500gb SSDs for around £150 there no need for a SSHD. 500gb is more that enough to put some games on with the OS and other programs. The HDD is just there for storing photos/videos, things that don't need fast load times.

Just so the OP knows I went SSF but I was trying to fit in a 240 Air. For 4k you'd need at least a 295x2 or 970SLI neither of which would have coped too well the in 240 (you could get SLI in but it would be hot, assuming you can get rear exhaust 970's).

I like that AOC monitor, I've just heard a few niggles about it.. Good value though.

evening doomspeed, i agree up to a point with your comments, but even if a store only drive for a extra it costs i'd still like and use the speed, as budget can't stretch for all sdd's like i'd want, the next best for me is SSHD, not HDD, but then again it's only a opinion and that's up to thread starter and if you like them or not, most haven't tried so stick with tried and tested like i did for many years with raptors etc, but now i have moved on, prices are coming down and now it's time to loose the HDD altogether apart from a few odd ones, bigger is still plenty cheaper and red and black ones are nice, but most like green for me are a waste of time and far too slow to be of much use for gaming, pure store use, then maybe, but as since both of you posted standard 6gb ones, there's no point for me to still be using them apart from price...

but there most of you go on, back on to the old debate :) which i won't go into......

speed v's price, you want a sdd as your boot which most of the time is too small for most game collections to be on, then put a hdd is as a backup, which 90% of gamers would fill with games anyway as there main 250gb sdd isn't big enough now days for O/S and steam plus any normal persons collection of this year only games...

so my point is, the 2nd drive isn't going to be store only

rant over :)

then again i'm only a gamer, who cares less about benchmarks and speed tests or overclocking for the fun of it and just like to play, so what do i know :)
