looking to replace the rather antiquated Epson X10 in our conference room with something that will do 4k and dare i say it a bit of light gaming for after hours use

4k 60hz would be fine mainly for a bit of fifa with the team a few times a month.

do need something that will work well in a well lit environment and also be useable for "work stuff" (powerpoint/boring stuff)

budget not really a concern although value for money is, so no cinema spec stuff please

Office and business projectors dont tend to be 4K resolution unless you have thousand to spend.

They tend to be boring, lower resolution like WXGA which is not even HD and terrible at gaming.

That is just how it is, they suck.

Yep

Exactly what I’m looking to bin

Keep in mind that if you do go for 4k, even at that size you’ll likely resort to display scaling to make text legible so don’t gain much benefit of 4k when doing presentations or presenting data on an excel spreadsheet (I.e. you don’t get any extra information on the screen)

Even ~300inch lecture hall projectors are typically 1080p and no one cares because you can read stuff and your crappy laptop doesn’t slow down trying to drive a 4k screen for no reason.

The only reasons you might want to put a 4k projector in a conference room like that is bragging rights to… your one mate that will care because they don’t know better… or to swap out for your crap one at home to benefit from the tax right off.

If you want good value for money spend it on high brightness and 1080p, then call it day (although I can’t recommend anything because it’s not something I’ve looked into for a while)
