OK, recommended the following:
Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black (No PSU)
Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply
G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM
Samsung SH-S223B/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM
Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard
Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) - Retail + Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Game

All's good apart from doubt with regard to the Memory.

The need for 1600MHz over 1333MHz, and, why opt for more expensive branded over value, as value would allow him to pick-up a 6GB Tri-Channel-Kit for not much more?

If you're building an i5 rig then dual channel is the only option (unfortunatly I'm thinking the same thing right now), I'm planning on a build almost exactly the same as that, the only differences are a 5850 and this RAM, which saves a bit of money, however the above G.Skill is faster than these sticks.

Why the MSi over the Gigabyte?

Makes me :( looking into a new quad build on my old S939 when it's not for me. :p

i don't personally trust giga. i've owned three and they have all gave me problems. i've also owned asus/msi/abit <-- never had problems.

However i would not be suprised if peeps here were to have problems with the ones i've mentioned and not giga lol.

Ah, thanks for that heads-up about it having to be Dual.

Only two boards I've had go up in flame are MSi and ABIT :D, but never used a Giga, suppose it's all pretty much luck of the draw.
