Hello,

My girlfriend, at nearly 24, has finally decided to get herself on the road - however, she doesn't have a driving licence, so has decided that a moped is the way forward for now, while she learns to drive a car.

So, for a budget of around £400 or less, what would you guys recommend? Reliability is a must, not bothered about speed at all.

I've also made a short list of things she'll need:

Helmet
Jacket - leather or textured
Gloves

Anything to add?

Thanks :)

Tell her to put the money towards learning to drive and passing quicker.

Oh, all her money apart from this will be going towards learning to drive, but as she lives out in the sticks, getting to work to earn the money to learn to drive and buy a car is fairly hard, hence the moped option as a stop gap, so to speak.

P.s - thanks mods, forgot about the bikers section of the forum :o

Any ratty put put will do I'd be more inclined to put up a thread spec me helmet for£400 most important part even more so than the bike good jacket trousers footwear and gloves too as you've already listed

The £400 was just a wild guess, I've not idea what they cost second hand.

A good helmet is of course the most important bit, she'll be buying a new one, properly fitted :)

I got a Vespa ET2 for £400 last year and it proved extremely reliable up until the point a young lady took me out in her car and wrote it off. I was advised anything Japanese, French or Italian should be OK, easy to work on and pretty reliable.

Ideally, don't get a 2 stroke. If you can get a 4 stroke moped, get one. As long as it has enough oil and isn't chinese, it will just keep going and going and going and going... you get the idea.
