Spec me a £600 - £700 PC

Don't really need a keyboard, mouse, monitor or any type of optical drive.

The machine will be used for gaming, the machine will also need to have the ability to upgrade in the future as/when he needs more power. I am currently unsure on which route to take in terms of CPU (i5/i7/AMD Phenom II).

Any suggestions?

Take the i5(760) route. 4GB of RAM, high-quality PSU, and a decent graphics card- GTX 460/470, or a 6850/70. Get a good motherboard to support overclocking/SLI/xfire when you go for the extra power.
