currently on p4 prescott!

i already have something in mind, but would like to see i'm close to the gurus, plus i have no idea on PSU and SSD yet :)

the only componets ill need for now are listed below (will get new case etc next month):

==MOBO

==CPU

==HSF

==RAM

==GFX CARD

==SSD (dont need second drive)

==OPTICAL SATA

==PSU (24/7 system, good for cable management - i'm a neat freak!)

50% hd video, 30% million tab browsing, 20% gaming

I want to get a top notch system ideally - as future proof as possible, with a budget of £800 too £900.

going to upgrade my dell ips to a 30" hopefully, if that effects the build?

thanks!

You asked for future proofing, so have included,

1) a great PSu with lots of power and connectors for multi GPU use. And its a Modular cable design.
2) A motherboard that also supports multi GPU use, namely Crossfire/SLI

thanks, thought i could have gone 2600 with that budget... might need to up it a bit, haha.

Depends entirely on the use.

The Above spec is 100% gaming, as a 2500K is just as fast as a 2600 cpu.

As you can compare here - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/287?vs=288

if its actually not for gaming and is more for video editing/photoshop work? then a few changes can be done to include a 2600K cpu

but im only 20% gaming at most. i guess i need to up the budget to mroe around 900... :) thanks for the link

£900 would be nice:)

have also upped the RAM too 8GB

But if your not doing much gaming then a Crossfire/sli motherboard may not be needed as you might only ever use a single GPU at a time.

i had in mind an MSI board, heard there was lots of problems with the asus? also, not sure between 480 and 6950, is that antec psu good for a 24/7 system? thanks!

Pretty much what I was going to recommend :p

Go for that build, extremely fast and future proof. Overclocking is great with a i7 2600k too so you won't need to upgrade for a few years.

i do like antec, used to have a truepower a long time ago. however, just read a reviews saying this PSU has some short cables, and some cannot be routed to the back of the case?

anyone know of equally good one with nice cable length so i can ruoute them all around?

thanks

edit:
lol, didnt realise i had the top dog spec already :D

Go for the MSI P67A-GD65 specially as it's on offer this week :)

EDIT: Similarly specced system to Stulid's but including the 'This week only deals':

Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor with FREE Operation Flashpoint Red River Game £239.99

MSI P67A-GD65 Intel P67 (socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) ** B3 REVISION ** £132.00

Antec TruePower New Modular 750W Power Supply £89.99

G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL ) £71.99

Get conformation off someone that the G.Skill's will fit under the A50 though as they're quite tall

As usual stulid is pretty spot on. However I would change the mobo. For the P67 chipset I would go either MSI or Gigabyte.

Also you can buy extension cables for PSU cables that are too short.

What case you thinking of? as i use the 650w Antec new truepower in a monster sized ATCS840 and dont need extensions.

good to know about the cables, u route them around the back? thanks!

ive been looking for an 840. only thing stopping me on that is the lack of rubber grommets and the bottom bit - just one great big hole rather then a subtle pass through... im picky, i know :P still might get it though as its so good looking, alu, too.

im going to get case later - can use my old lian li for now :) might upgrade when the enw ones come out, pc-z70 maybe. should be about same size as 840.

if i get an better ssd, would u say the new m4 or vertex 3?

Yep.

the 8pin ATX goes under the bottom and up the back, then down from one of the cable management holes along the top of the motherboard.
