Hope everyone's had a merry christmas!

The joys of having a birthday on xmas eve immediately followed by christmas has resulted in me receiving a fair bit of spending money, and now I am finally getting round to upgrade my machine (see sig for my current spec).

My Mach II Phase unit is currently away being modded by one of the guys from xtremesystems to run much colder, so a main objective of this pc upgrade is to make the most of this cooling.

The components I'm looking to upgrade are:
  • CPU - got intel e6600's in mind, seeking a good batch week for high OC
  • Mobo - really have no idea which to choose, there are so many! Should I wait for the new nForce chipset or go with the intel one? In either case, which specific motherboard should I go for?
  • RAM - with a new mobo I'll need DDR2. Not massively bothered about having 2GB instead of 1GB, my primary concern is that it won't hold back the overclocking
  • PSU - Must be powerful enough to cope with whatever I throw at it in the future (at least 600W), must have good v-rails and also have a modular cable design as I hate redundant cabling hanging round inside my case
Now as long as all the above things are ok, and the phase change performs as expected, I'm optimistically hoping for an overclock of at least 4.2-4.4Ghz.

Any comments/advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated :)

Defaintly an E6600, very good at stock and very good overclockers.
Could go for the Gigabyte DS-3 or DS-4, rather cheap but very good for overclocking, unless you want an SLi/corssfire board.

Well you could go for the OCUK 2gb 6400 DDR2 ram which is great value at just under £150.

PSU, the enermax 850w is expensive, but its very reliable and you can be sue your stuff wont go up in flames.

Overall this costs around £680

this leaves some money, then you can sell your x1900 at a later date and buy a GTX or R600 or something then.
