Spec me a base/world/RTS/building game!

So i'm desperate for a game around building bases, cities etc and i'm just wondering if i've missed anything recently.

Total War series: Rome or Medieval II or Black and White 2.

They are more 2005ish but most strategy gamers would say that they fall under your criteria. I'm just getting the ball rolling, I'm looking for similar games myself.
Just to specify are you looking for war oriented games or more of a Sim City feel? Its a diverse field even Homeworld would be a candidate.

Recently completed the B&W series again.

It doesn't have to be war, i'm more then happy with a sim city style game.

After a few minutes searching, Sins of a Solar empire is catching headlines. Its a rts space opera like Homeworld but released in 2008.

Definitely! Lacks a storyline mode, but still very engrossing.

Well as someone said, Rise of Nations + exp is superb.
Pharaoh + cleo exp./Ceasar 3 are awesome.
Age of Mythology is still okay..

there are many many more as it's my fav genre but atm I can't remember much else

Ooo I just started playing Ceasar 3 again, for a game from what, 1999? Its still one of the best out there imo.

I would go Medieval II, so real, easy enough to get in to and have a laugh, in depth enough for the serious gamer.

Definitely try Supreme Commander : Forged Alliance but with Veterancy mod and some of the additional unit mod packs. There is one which has extra units & improved AI, but the name of the mod escapes me at the mo..
