Spec me a basic system

Hi,

My friend currently has a intel pentium 540 (3.2Ghz) on a motherboard with a 915p chipset (thats all i know about the board) and 512MB pc3200 ddr ram. He only use's his computer to watch dvd's + burn them and browsing the internet. Now he says his computer is too slow and is also thinking about going over to vista soon. I did say to him about buying 1GB of RAM to help things along but i don't think this would give it quite the boost he is looking for.
I was thinking that he should just buy a e6300, a compatiable motherboard and some cheapish RAM

Would someone please be able to spec me a cheapish motherboard, RAM and possiably video card as i think his is agp

Yeah but a brand spanking new C2D setup still won't make a difference in watching dvds, burning dvds, and browsing the Internet!

Your friend has already got a fairly decent setup for what he does so additional memory and maybe a new graphics card are all he need to run Vista.

Maybe he doesn't realise how much performance increase can be gained from additional RAM??
