Hi Guys,

So spec me a BBQ, we dont have to many bbq's in the year but would like too. In the past we have always had a budget round 3 tier bbq around £20 from homebase, they rot and are generally unstable and cheap.

All last year I was tempted to buy Gas for the ease of use but have heard its just not the same, or is it? i know you can buy the charcoals for them and smoke chips.

I see a lot of kettle bbqs around now too, but I have used one in the past and found that as there is no height adjustment it was hard to cook without burning especially with fatty meats. If i stuck with coal I would like an adjustable

So what should I get? I want it to last, budget £100 - £150?

Cheers
Ross

Yep i got one of thoses, its the best kettle bbq you can get and thats great price.

I also have a 7 burner gas grill i got off ebay for £150, thats good for winter cooking or when you dont have time to coal it up

Dont worry about burning your food, you should always put the coals just on one side of the bbq and cook them the otherside with the lid on. then move over the coals to flame grill

I never understood why people buy gas BBQ's for their back garden at least. My dad built our BBQ with some left over bricks and some grills.

Having said that, it does take ages to get going and is very smokey, I bet food cooked on gas tastes a lot better.

Surely the only benefit of a gas BBQ is that it's portable?

No, gas BBQ are great if you want a quick grill, easy to clean after as well, they can also be used with smoking pellets and are are easy to control temps with.

I do prefer to use my charcoal BBQ, but for speed i use the gas

Looking for a cheap barbeque myself. Last year we used the disposable one which were ok but mostly naff!

If you're used to disposables then I'd grab a Weber Smokey Joe. They're smaller than the normal webers, but you can get them for less than £40 and they're portable enough that you can take em camping or to the beach or whatever.

Not going to happen, certainly not this year anyway. I'm booked up till end of August and even after that's starting to fill up. To much happening this year. Holidays, stag dos, weddings, and I work most weekends as it is.

I'd like to pre-emptively sign up for a meat meet whenever it finally happens :p

so with the smoke chips and charcoals on a gas bbq, can you re-produce the charcoal bbq taste or very near it?

Argos do a barrel BBQ for 80 quid which IMO is one of the best value BBQs you can get, plenty big enough so nice and versatile plus sturdy too.
