hi guys, im currently running my cpu (e6750) with the intel std cooler, i've been pretty impressed with it so far as its nice and quiet but my temps are pretty high on Everest stress test

cpu
min: 22*c
max: 51*c

core1
min: 34*c
max: 65*c

core2
min: 34*c
max: 62*c

im new to skt 775 so i dont know which cooler is best. it must be silent maybe even fanless? but sitll cool better then stock

thanks ppl :)

idk about passive ones, but maybe concider a thermalite 120 extreme

regarded as the best cooler on the market by a lot of people.

and you put your own 120mm fan on it, so can get a nice quiet one.

if i bought a passive one where you bolt on your own fan, would the 25cm fan on the side of my armour case be sufficent to cool it?

try a sharkoon silent eagle 1000, it is suppose to be almost inaudiable especially with a fan controller, the 2000 is a bit louder though but apparantly not by much.

If you've a 120mm fan at the back of the case then making a duct from the cooler to the fan should work. There's a version of the Thermalright HR-01 that actually comes with a duct but I don't know of a source for it.

But if you don't like 60C with the Intel stock cooler, don't even think about going overclocking with one of these. I have had a Q6600 at over 3.6GHz under this one, but the load temperatures were in the low 80's. It doesn't bother me, but I know lots of people who had heart attacks and predicted that the CPU would be dead in a few years. I tend to sell my CPUs every 6 months or so, so as long as it lasts that long, I'll be happy.

Hey WJA96,

I am slowly going off the 'Tower' heatsinks, although they do cool the CPU great the surrounding PWM/Mosfet areas really do get hot and I'm starting to gravitate back towards conventional 'squat' (horizontal) solutions as they do give the area around the CPU socket a good blasting of air.

I'm just waiting for an LGA775 adapter to arrive so I can test out an older XP120 heatsink on a Core2 Dup build. I just wondered what horizontal heatsinks you would recommend?

I had excellent results with both the Thermaltake Big Typhoon and the Thermaltake Blue Orb, but neither is as good as a good tower cooler unfortunately. And the Silverstone NT-06 is also very good indeed. That's just like the Thermalright you're looking at.

Hey, I'm a big Sharkoon fan (lol that sounds wrong?) I mean I like them and have used them a lot, not that i've lost the plot and am currently writing this post while strapped onto my heatsink!

The Silent Eagle 1000's are pretty quiet, as u would expect a 120mm fan spinng at 1000rpms to make however the The Silent Eagle 2000's do produce a bit of a 'whoosh' depending what heatsink you use. an SE2000 strapped onto a Ultra-120 sounds awefully loud for some reason but the same fan is a lot quieter when running on a horizontal XP-120?
