Spec me a bike

Hi guys

Decided its about time I got myself another bike. I would like an aluminium frame, from the suspension and disc brakes if possible. Budget between £400 - £500.

No serious off roading. Will mainly be used on road and gravel /grass track type rough surfaces. I was going to just go to Halfords and buy one I liked but can anyone recommend a specific one, or a brand to look for?

I rented a generic giant brand one recently in the new forest which I liked.

If you are looking at road and gravel / grass track you don't really need suspension.

Or disc brakes.

Are Voodoo a good solid brand? They have a couple of nice looking ones for around £400.

If you are going to halfords then the Carrera and Boardman stuff is much better than VooDoo, Apollo, Raleigh and Trax.

On your budget I've the the Boardman Performance Hybrid. Discs, but no suspension.

Just think about whether you'll definitely be using it on grass etc, I don't mean to patronise but everyone thinks they will (me included with my first bike!) but often don't at all and there are a lot of compromises you have to make to a good road bike when you want to go on grass.

Voodoo are the same level as Carrera and Boardman, just a bit eccentric in design/spec. For the money look at the Voodoo Marassa or Agwa, should be good for what you want. For the amount of money you are willing to spend there are so many options out there.
