Hi folks. My partner's totally taken with the BitFenix Prodigy case after seeing her friend's boyfriend's PC. As she needs a new PC for work, she says she now wants one built with that case! Its principally for work purposes so no gaming at all, though she will be using for light entertainment too (BBC iplayer, Youtube, editing photos of cute puppies, that sort of thing!). Ideally with HDMI audio and Wifi onboard, though the wifi is not a deal breaker. Her budget is not very much; just between £250 and £300. As I said, this is mainly for work and so reasonable speed, quietness and eye candy are her main wants rather than some monster of a machine. Your suggestions are extremely appreciated :)

I've got the following in mind at present and feeback will be very helpful before I take the plunge:

AMD A10-5800K 3.8GHz Quad-Core £85.44
Gigabyte GA-F2A88XN-WIFI Mini ITX FM2+ £79.06
Corsair Vengeance 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 £33.96
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM £36.96
BitFenix Prodigy (Black) Mini ITX Tower £69.95
Corsair 430W ATX12V £36.66
Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer

Thanks

Looks fine, but AMD's new Kaveri APUs will be out on the 14th, so if you wait until then you'll either be able to get one of them for the same price, or perhaps pick up some old Trinity/Richland stock at a bit of a discount.

Cheers for the heads up, pal. Just a few days more so it makes sense to hold off till then. Realistically, is there any way of building this any cheaper without necessarily comprising on power, speed etc too much?

Thanks, Fulax.
My thinking has evolved slightly on this and am now thinking of this:

Intel Core i3-3220 3.3GHz Dual-Core £80.31
ASRock B75 PRO3-M Micro ATX LGA1155 £46.59
Corsair Vengeance 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 £33.02
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM £36.96
BitFenix Prodigy M Arctic White MicroATX Mini Tower £74.59
Corsair 430W ATX12V £42.71
Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer £12.50

Any thoughts on it, please?

Thanks

Nothing wrong with that if there will be no gaming at all. ASRock don't have the best reputation for build quality these days, so if you can get a similarly-priced motherboard from, say, Gigabyte (who have a UK-based RMA service) go for that.

A couple of other things:

In the name of eye-candy, I must point out that your DVD writer has a black front, which will look silly on a white case. Personally I'd get an external DVD player anyway.

If you can fit a small SSD (60gb or so) into the budget it will make a world of difference.

Finally: there are only 5 of those white Prodigy Ms in stock, so be quick. They'll go back up in price tomorrow morning.

Cheers, I've got one in my basket and am paying by Paypal shortly. Technical specs aren't my forte so your help is deeply appreciated. I went with the Asrock mobo because from the little I know, it seemed to incorporate HDMI video and audio out. Also it was just about £46 so a lot less than the Gigabyte GA-F2A88XN I had in mind originally which was almost 40 quids more.

Any suggestions on a similar mobo, but from a more reputable manufacturer? Thanks

This is only £10 over your last basket and a better build imo.

Double the ram, double the hard drive space, and a newer processor / motherboard combo. It also includes a DVD writer instead of a CD writer.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i3-4130 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £83.99

1 x BitFenix Prodigy M MATX Cube Case - Arctic White £54.95
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £43.99

You're the man! Time to flash some plastic. Thanks very much. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Hopefully I wont do anything terribly wrong once I start building
