The book has to be either fantasy or sci-fi. Characters are what I like the most in books, story goes second. I prefer characters that are either powerful or have the potential to be powerful (power can be physical, magical, intellectual or a mix of those). I enjoy the type of characters that are driven, relentless and who don't normally take **** from anyone. In short, I like bad@sses.
To get a better idea what I'm looking for, here's a list of some of my favourite characters:
- Leto II, Dune, Frank Herbert;
- Logen Ninefingers, First Law, Joe Abercrombie;
- Tyrion Lannister, Song of Fire and Ice, George R. R. Martin;
- Gregory House, House TV series;
- Monkey D. Luffy and Roronoa Zoro, One Piece manga;
- Druss, Drenai books, David Gemmell.
The type of character that I don't like is one such as Rand al'Thor (Wheel of Time), who constantly whines, runs and struggles through ~6 books.
