Sorry for the non specific title, but i'm out of my depth so i'm wondering if anyone can explain and spec me what i need:

Whilst at uni i have: ONE static IP address, and specific gateway, DNS and proxy addresses. This is fine but i'm looking at both connecting more than one device to the single network socket. I assume i need some sort of router/accesspoint/switch but dont know exactly what.

I assume the 'box' (or boxes?) will need to be setup with all the ip and proxy info, then it will create it's owwn 'sub network' and directs the traffic as required. But i dont know what would do this, and whether things like proxy and dns server infor would have to be setup on each amcine or on the 'box' itself.

I'm only talking 2/3 ethernet devices and not generating huge amounts of traffic either. But networking is not my strongpoint so any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

If DNS and default gateway aren't automatically assigned, you'd need to set them. The router should be able to proxy DNS requests for the machines behind it though.

When I was at Uni I just whacked a wrt54gs into my halls network point. Couldn't be bothered ringing them up so just spoofed the MAC of my already registered machine. Worked a charm.
