Hi,

For christmas I think I will ask for a camera. Now I am liking the look of the bridge cameras available. I will be wanting it to play round with and learn how to use nicely. Now I will have a budget of roughly £200 so what do people suggest I should get?

bridge camera?

I used to have a Fuji S5000 which was pretty good for the money. I think the S5600 is the newer version of it. I reckon the Fuji's are pretty good. The Panasonic ones look pretty good as well (not tried them out), though they seem to be a little dearer than the Fuji's.

I used to have a konica minolta Dimage 7hi which was a great camera, but they were taken over by sony, I don't know if sony have done an equivalent or if they sell the latest Minolta versions still, would have been the A2 model or something i think

Canon S3 or Canon 710 (I think it's called the 710 - EDIT: No, it isn't but it's something with a 7 at the start... I think..). If you can stretch, get the Canon G7 and just get it over and done with. Great camera. :D

Had/still have an S5000, while its a nice camera, the shutter lag is measured in days. Not much use if you'r taking pics of kiddies running round at a party.
Still, its safe for SWMBO to use.
As long as the newer versions have got the shutter lag sorted, then the S series are nice camera's.
Oh and the electronic viewfinder on the S5000 is dire btw.

I've got a s5000, been a great little camera, perfect for holidays.

However the battery cover is a bit flimsy, not sure if they've fixed it on later models, but the lugs on mine have sheared off, unfortunately minimum fix cost from fuji is more than a new S5600 so I think thats where I'll be going next.

Wow, £112! I've not seen a price lower than £139 online.
