Hi there,

A colleague has asked me to put together a PC for him - mainly for web surfing, sorting through his photos etc. I'm a bit out of the loop as far as hardware goes so I figured this would be the place to ask for advice.

His budget is around the £450 mark - that must include a "nice telly" aka monitor (his words not mine ;)). Putting it together isn't a problem, so if someone could list me some components to suit the aforementioned price that would be champion. :)

Cheers

If its only for web and paint shop pro, I'd say Vista 64, 4Gb of RAM and a discreet GFX card are overkill.

Onboard NV7100, 2Gb Ram and XP would seriously bring the cost down. :)

He has a budget thought, might as well get the best you can within that, no? Future proofing a system in this way brings down the TCO as upgrades won't be needed as soon :)

XP is roughly the same cost as Vista and with current prices 4GB RAM is hardly breaking the bank. I agree about the onboard GPU though, no point in a seperate card unless you are gaming as they use far more power and clearly have a cost involved.
