Hey, so my buddy is going to be building a new rig and has £500 to spend. I've not really been following the new hardware released recently, anyone mind spec'ing him a rig that will be able to play games nicely. Below are the components he needs:

- Mobo
- CPU
- RAM
- Graphics Card
- HDD
- DVD Optical Drive

Could you also state the power of the PSU he would need to run the rig, but not include it in the initial price as he already has a PSU that may be able to run it (although I doubt it).

Cheers.

You didnt say if you needed a case or not, so i threw one in. As for the PSU, you would need around 460W or 500W just to make sure.
If you need any recomendations for the PSU, please ask. Also, this is a good rig for £500 and can be downsized in order to accommodate other things (different case, bigger HDD etc)

Instead of spending ~140 on the X4 930, u can get the X4 630 for ~100 and get a 1TB HDD.
Also, instead of going for the Nvidia Elite series, save some bucks by going for the normal Elite cabby and spend the saved amount on a good PSU.

As for the power supply, a Corsair VX450 should suffice for this combination. Ideally your friend should have a PSU which can handle ~450W true load.

Is £500 enough to get you a competetive gaming rig these days, as I may be looking at a new one myself soon (currently running a dual core and DDR)?

if u want competetive then i'd go for 650 quid as you will get a nice i5 system for that with 4gb ram and something like a 4890 which will run everything

with regards to the above spec i'd probably just get a diff case ... even that akasa one which is cheap then you can budget in a PSU, the black edition phenom II is also only 126 quid now so i'd stay with that ( it also supports DDR3 as some of the lesser phenoms are only DDR2 ) and change the graphics card to a 4870 or 4890 .
