If your oging to go for the 2400....just get a H61 mobo and save yourself like £60.
IMHO (and probably the same across the forum), if you want an i5...the 2500k is the only way to go.

Sorry, Its for games... so the 6 cores wouldn't really be used effectively??

thanks

Nope....do you already have a GPU or need one also?
What kind of games? GPU or CPU heavy? (if you know)

Id personally go with mickeys spec.

With free shipping comes in at £300.96, has mATX mobo as requested, as well as low profile aftermarket CPU cooler (low profile as I assume its needed due to mATX requirement)

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM £173.99
1 x Asus P8P67-M Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 MicroATX Motherboard ** B3 REVISION ** £94.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/4GX) £19.99
1 x Akasa AK-CC7118HP01 K25 Low Profile CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156) £11.99
Total : £312.36 (includes shipping : £9.50).

Edit: 2500K with OCable mobo and 4 gig of RAM is better than non clockable system with 8 gig

Its an upgrade for a friend: he plays Battlefield 3 and Starcraft 2 and sadly WOW.

He has a good PSU (corsair) and a HD5750 which will last for the time being but the system is a Dell Dual-core on DDR2 getting bit dated.

thanks

Well if he can stretch the extra £20, Id go with mickeys spec. Then later down the line, buy a gield trantriliqoofowsqero (cant spell it :p) and OC it.

how about this? Think he preff the 8gb Ram. Does the sandybridge make a large improvment in speed?

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £184.99

Asus P8P67-M Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 MicroATX Motherboard ** B3 REVISION ** £94.99

Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) £29.99

Akasa AK-CC7118HP01 K25 Low Profile CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156) £11.99

Total : £321.96

Thanks for the help.

Where would 6 cores help then, Number crunching?
And would 1866mhz not make it much faster than the 1600mhz?

cheers

Looks good, do you want the retail CPU if youre getting aftermarket cooler? £11 for additional warranty (they normally break pretty quick if theyre going to, lol)

No, not really, you cant directly compare because of the differing architectures, Intels just way ahead of AMD ATM
And no, for SB RAM speed has little effect

 A little confused, the retail cpu is cheaper than OEM and comes with 3years warranty?

no retail is £185, comes with 3 year vs 1 year warranty and a standard intel heatsink, the OEM is £174, comes with 1 year and no heatsink (youre buying an aftermarket one anyway)

I see, i was looking at the 2500 not the 2500K

Assume the HD 3000 graphics in the 2500K will be a vast improvement with regards to CPU heavy games.

thanks.
