Hey all,

Got a buddy wanting to get into PC Gaming, he has a budget for £1500 - Requires just the tower, already has mouse, keyboard, monitor etc. Doesn't need Windows as he has a copy of this too.

He's generally going to be playing games such as PUBG & CSGO with a 144hz Monitor, what specs would you suggest?

I was thinking atleast a 1070 as he sometimes plays some "beefier" games, however not sure if it's best to go for i5 or i7 (purely gaming, nothing like rendering etc)

P.S - He doesn't want to wait for any new releases of CPU's/GPU's and the likes.

Cheers :)

That looks pretty spot on to me - Thanks Freelanc3r :)

I've never really touched Ryzen so it'll be good to see what it's like :D

Ryzen is great, and AMD have confirmed the AM4 socket will be future proof for years to come.

Btw, the case is entirely personal preference as long as it offers decent airflow. However the case I spec'd comes with a 140mm fan and a 120mm fan, so he could possibly set the AIO cooler up with 2 fans on the radiator. If he's not fussed about overclocking and wants to save some cash, take the AIO cooler off. The stock coolers that come with Ryzen 7 are actually really good and they don't look bad at all!

He won't be overclocking (Can't tell a hard drive from a graphics card.... haha) - Might just take out the AIO and dump in an Evo 212

Your friend would be fine with a 6 core R5 1600 if just gaming. The cooler can also be dropped if not overclocking as the stock cooler is pretty decent. A good 550W psu is also enough. I would suggest the Seasonic Focus Plus Gold. The money saved can either be kept in his wallet or maybe upgrade to a GTX1080 if it allows.

Lee's above is perfect pretty much on point !

Just added a very cheap RGB case that's pretty much a clone of Corsair 400c
Air cooler to push past 3.7ghz OC and 1TB SSD

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £326.06 (includes shipping: £11.10)

Just wait a little longer? Those prices are likely to fall again in just 2 weeks. Then you can buy it, or get the new chips.

Never a good time to buy, but in 2 weeks it will arguably be better than now.

Depends, looking at released pricing, 2700x will cost £10-15 cheaper then 8700k £360 , like wise with 2600x matching i5 8600k £220.

Should slot right in the nicely and won't have to drop ryzen first gen as it's still £50-60 cheaper .... All in theory
Though they might not follow Intel and slash prices but they'll have to rebate resellers

to be fair, not much diff with gtx 1080 and 1070ti for £50 :D though 1080 11gbps version - yeah OC that bad boy and it pull ahead :D

might sure 8700k but need an ice berg to cool it hahah
