Hi,

I'm looking to build a headless box for a Linux home file server / NAS / random box to test things on. I'm looking for capacity as the main objective, but also, I don't have a keyboard/mouse/monitor, so I'm going to install the OS onto a hard disk via a USB dock and then transfer the drive to the machine.

I'm agnostic about brands, and I'm looking to spend about 200 without drives, and I'd ideally like to be able to add up to, say 6-8 drives (possibly via a PCI/PCIE SATA card if need be) as a future proofing thing.

Is this a plausible number?

Cheers.

dual core cpu, 4gb ram, 6 onboard sata ports, card with an extra 2, case has 6 3.5 hdd spaces, can use adapters if you need more.

no it should be fine, i specced the other because it had more room for hdd's, but you can mod the case to fit more than 4 (5 with a bay adapter) if you want to save some cash.

youd have to get a matx mobo too.
