Hi there,

Just to say that I am pretty new to all of this stuff and have a limited knowledge of PC components etc. Also I am not interested in overclocking.

Basically all I will use a new PC for is gaming and general student work.

Okay so I am looking to spend a max of about £1100 - EXCLUDING VAT

.....

Basically I want a really great gaming machine and I would ideally like a good size monitor - widescreen. Not willing to pay for the dell 24" though - i really don't want to spend a lot on a TFT monitor.... So i guess a good graphics card is essential?

Hard drives - what is the difference between SATA and IDE?

Thanks guys for your help. Basically I don't want the top of the range products - bar graphics card probably and I'd like the cheapest type of products in the range - im not interested in *optimum* performance. Thus say for example 2gb of RAM - I would be interested in the more or less standard form of RAM not the hugely expensive optimum stuff.

On that note.... 2gb of RAM or 4gb?

Also - would it be better to wait til end of july to upgrade so i can get the Quad Core that apparently is coming down in price?

Thanks again.

Ahh I see - thanks for the reply

Is it quicker then to have 2 hard drives instead of 1?

Also is a sound card necessary? All I would do is buy a pair of 2.1 speakers from Creative.... is onboard sound sufficient for this?

As long as the sound is good - again I am not interested in optimum sound performance...

Also would the above system be quite a quiet system?

Thanks
