Spec me a CAD machine.

CAD machine for under 1k? :0

Ninja Edit - Seems it is possible nowadays! Have a look at the Dell Precision line.

O.K had a look at the dell and its limited to five units which pretty much rules it out. It's possible to go to 1.5k at a push. I've looked at alienware machines. rocks and all the rest but I cant find what I'm after. I need a fast machine with a large amount of ram and a 17'' screen for a good price.

sorry for my lack of effort into looking into it, but 3 years ago when I was buying a laptop to start my engineering degree I bought a CAD biased laptop and saw that IBM and HP make the best ones, I ended up getting a T series IBM (T61p) with the mega high res screen and was really good, HP made a good widescreen one too so take a look there.

Autocad doesn't really require a quadro/firegl graphics card so any old laptop with a non intel x whatever graphics in should be fine. So you have a large pick with dell probably having the best range.

The precision M90 can be had for pretty cheap nowadays, it's got a Quadro FX3500 in it which is still a pretty sweet card. Phone and haggle with them and I imagine you could get a better CPU and the higher res screen for not too much more than the base cost. :)

Might be using an older chipset but it's still decent. Check out the auction sites and you could find one for under £500.

Fujitsu Siemens Celsius are the ones my uni supplies us with for CAD stuff (we get them for the uni year) dont know what exact model I have (sorry too lazy to power up) but varius specs are £1200ish

Acdoring the Fuji-Sie website they are designed for CAD work.
