Hi, I want to get a graphical calculator, not sure whether to get a casio 9850gc or a texas instruments model, has anyone had experience of either or know of any advantages or disadvantages one has over the other?

Thanks

For what will you use it, basic graphing? for me my old standby is my TI83. It's tough and is the de facto standard model for undergrads. I later stepped up to a TI89 for its calculus-related functions but still keep the 83 handy near my desk.

I have used the casio and found it easy enough with practice to use, but also the uni i was at suggested the texas. So if you can get someone to show them in the shop and see which has a nicer screen and button layout. Then just get one.

Thanks for the replies, mainly i will be using it for graphing, also a bit of stats aswell probably, I also do a lot of calculus on my course, don't know if the casio can do any calculus, what level of calculus does the edit:TI 89 go upto? The amount of it i have to learn at the moment seems endless:(, also the texas instuments seem to be harder to find in the UK.

I'm afraid I can't help too much with the recommendation of calculators other than saying the TI-83 should be easily able to cope up to A-Level standard and beyond.

However a quick search brought me to the TI website for the UK which has links to places to buy. The Student Calculators link seems pretty cheap.

Do you mean TI-89? If so, it can perform operations including variables right out of the box. It performs differentiation and integration. It has a bunch of features involving matrices that i haven't really used. It can do waaaaay more than I've ever known. ;)

There is a US ebay seller with a few TI-89s for £69.90 delivered, you might get stung for import tax but you might get lucky :)
