Hey guys, hoping you can help.

I know nothing about camcorders/cameras etc and been asked by the GFs brother to help spec him a decent camcorder. I have been told a decent digital camera will be a better option? and use the 1080p recording on that.

He is very anti -tech so the easiest thing to use the better. Would you be able to spec me around £300.00.

Thanks :)

Cant believe this thread is dead

It's barely been a day...

A digital camera will produce vastly better video quality yes.

The Nikon D3200 is around that price with lens.

Sorry for my impatience. I hardly post in this section. Was expecting fast replies like other parts, my bad.

Thanks for the reply. I personally like this, but hes wanting something more compact.

If he is very Anti tech I wouldn't go down the DSLR route. I would just goto a shop and pick a HD camcorder that meets the budget.

Maybe a Panasonic V520?

I'm assuming this person therefore isn't going to be making professional productions, in which case I'd say that a camcorder is clearly your best option. At a £300 price point, I'd simply try them out in the shops and see which you like the best, maybe read some reviews and then buy one.

The reason you aren't going to find much solid advice from people here is that there aren't many people buying camcorders, at least not regularly enough to be able to say "Yeah, you want this one". Its different with pricier cameras, DSLRs in particular because models are around for a long time and have all kinds of lenses and accessories for them. Video Cameras tend to be replaced a lot quicker on the market.

buy a Panasonic lumix fz-200 600mm leica f2.8, or a lumix gh2 with a hd lens imo, my bro atm has been researching cheaper options and after 3 weeks trawling has narrowed it down to the above.
